In July 2011, Veolia Environmental Services was awarded a contract by Hertfordshire County Council to develop a new facility.
In November 2011 we submitted an application to develop a Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility in Hatfield, for which permission was granted in October 2012.
However, the application was then called in and subject to a Public Inquiry, held in 2013. The Secretary of State denied planning permission in June 2014. Having studied the Secretary of State's decision we believe that current policy and law have been misapplied and on Thursday 14 August we submitted a statutory challenge to the Secretary of State's refusal to give planning permission for the Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility at New Barnfield.
We still strongly believe an in-county treatment solution is needed, as his own decision confirms, and we await the outcome of this process.
