18 September 2012
Local residents and those from further afield are invited to visit the site from 10.00am – 4.00pm (last entry 3.00pm) on Sunday 23 September 2012 at Landmann Way, off Surrey Canal Road, Deptford, London SE14 5RS.
This event is part of a nationwide series of “wonder“ open days being held by leading recycling and waste management company Veolia Environmental Services, aiming to show residents what happens to their waste once it is collected. In addition, it is being held in conjunction with the London Open House Weekend, which is an annual event providing Londoners with a unique opportunity to explore distinctive architecture and facilities in the public and private realm.
The SELCHP facility recovers sufficient energy from household waste to power over 48,000 homes. Visitors can learn about the facility via an exhibition and a tour focusing on the environmental benefits of energy from waste.
SELCHP’s general manager Graham Ross said: “I look forward to welcoming everybody to SELCHP. Previous Open Days have attracted great interest from local residents and I hope everyone enjoys their day and finds their visit interesting and informative.”
People of all ages are most welcome, however parents attending with children under 16 are advised that they will need to accompany them at all times. There is no need to pre-book – just turn up on the day.
