Located in the south east of the capital, the northern half of the borough comprises urban areas including Crystal Palace, Penge, Beckenham, Bromley, Mottingham and Chislehurst, while the more rural south also includes West Wickham, Orpington and Biggin Hill, famed for its airport which until the early 1990s was an RAF base.
Amongst the many parks and open spaces in the borough are Sundridge Park, Scadbury Park Nature Reserve, Hayes Common and Petts Wood, while famous landmarks include the Crystal Palace Transmitter, on the site of the fire-destroyed Great Exhibition, currently the second largest structure in London which can be seen from many locations across the capital.
Veolia Environmental Services operates the refuse collection, recycling and waste disposal services on behalf of Bromley Council. It manages two Reuse and Recycling Centres where householders can bring their recyclable materials, as well as sending some non-recycled waste to the SELCHP Energy Recovery facility in the London Borough of Lewisham.
In 2008 we successfully regained the recycling and refuse collection contract which began in November 2001 for a further 8 years, lasting until March 2016. We also have a 14 year disposal contract which began in February 2002. The combined contracts treat approximately 170,000 tonnes of waste from the borough each year.
Special Events
At least twice a year Bromley and Beckenham High Streets play host to unique French and German-themed markets. We assist these events by supplying and emptying the bins on these days.
