Last year we launched our Corporate Responsibility ‘Go further together’ strategy which aimed to help us achieve sustainable growth in the marketplace and build on our successes in the workplace and local communities. Today, our collective efforts have been recognised through the Business in the Community (BitC) Corporate Responsibility Index having achieved Platinum status (99%).
I am extremely pleased with this tremendous result which reflects the daily contribution of our 12,000 employees in providing a positive impact on society through our integrated recycling and waste management services. We have worked hard over the past year by going further together to reduce accidents in the workplace, maintaining our environmental compliance, listening to customers and acting on engaging and opening our doors to local communities. We also encouraged each of our employees to volunteer in their local communities for half a day, which resulted in over 10,000 hours of community investment.
This year we will further invest in future generations by supporting 300 apprentices, continuing with our graduate and work experience programmes and further developing our employees through our learning and development activities.
We have set ourselves some tough targets as we continue on our sustainability journey; however I’m confident that if we work together, with our suppliers, our customers, and our communities to identify shared value, we’ll achieve great things.
