This weekend I will be at our 2011 Driver of the Year Grand Final. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, our Fleet team have spent the past couple of months searching for this year’s finalists, which includes a new category for drivers of vehicles of 3.5 – 7.5 tonnes, opening up the competition to more drivers. I’m also delighted to see that we have two female drivers in the final this year.
We introduced the Driver of the Year competition last year to recognise the important role our drivers play in promoting our company to our customers and the general public through their safe, efficient, environmentally friendly driving skills.
The Driver of the Year Grand Final will see our 38 finalists have their driving skills and knowledge put to the test in a series of exercises including an on road assessment.
The day will end in us naming our Driver of the Year 2011 in each category – rigid, artic and 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes. Friends and families of the finalists will also be at the event giving moral support whilst enjoying the family activities that will be available, including the opportunity to drive a 44 tonne artic lorry and experience off road driving in a 4x4 vehicle.
I’m very much looking forward to presenting the 2011 Driver of theYear trophies to the winners and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is kind to us.
