Upcycling at London Fashion Week

22 February 2013

By: Zoe Swai

On Saturday at London Fashion Week we saw the winner of the Veolia/Esthetica Re-Source competition, Liora Lassalle launch her debut upcycled fashion collection.  Under the mentoring guidance from Reclaim to Wear founder Orsola de Castro as well as Willie Walters (CSM) and Anna Orsini (BFC) (two of the competition panel members), Liora used Old PPE from our staff in London as well as reclaimed high textile waste to create her exciting ten piece collection which attracted a lot interest.

As with many manufacturing industries, textiles manufacturing has potential environmental impacts on waste, water and pollution but by encouraging the use of recycled and upcycled textiles this impact can be greatly reduced.  Liora’s ability to create such outstanding pieces through the use of upcycled textiles was inspiring and it is very exciting that Liora has secured her first online stockist at yoox.com.  I can’t wait to see how she furthers her career in upcycled fashion.
