Veolia Environment Services the UK’s leading recycling and waste company has won the HR Distinction Award for Change Management through an initiative when integrating two organisations following a successful three year plan. The award was presented at the annual HR Distinction Awards Gala Dinner at The ICC in Birmingham to celebrate excellence in HR projects.
When Veolia acquired Cleanaway in 2006 the company doubled in size in both head count and turnover. To ensure the best possible transition between the two organisations the HR team designed a three year roadmap for a streamlined merger. This included:
• Harmonising terms and conditions of employment
• Integrating departments and depots
• Restructuring and realigning business divisions
• Bringing together the cultural differences of the two organisations.
Emma Wordsworth, HR Director, Veolia Environmental Services said “We are delighted to be recognised by the HR Distinction Awards in Change Management for the work the team have put in. It can always be a daunting time for staff when integrating between two very different organisations however through the three year plan the team made this transition as efficient as possible.”
Judges’ comments from the HR Distinction awards said “Veolia Environmental Services did a brilliant job of integrating two organisations with different cultures, processes and systems. Implementation took place over a three year planned approach and has made a real success of bringing together two diverse organisations.”
The team also introduced new HR practices such as recruiting resource functions as well as a learning and development programme for all staff. With the full support of the Executive Committee this programme was developed and following internal customer feedback through focus workgroups the strategy was developed into the plan.
