Veolia in the community

Community

Veolia Environmental Services is committed to working with the community sector.

Some of the projects we are currently involved in are:

  • Working with the Shropshire Furniture Scheme to encourage people to donate their unwanted furniture so it can be reused by those in need
  • Engaging with schools in the Shropshire area to develop recycling via Bring sites
  • Using organisations who are committed to employing people with learning difficulties
  • Funding the Master Composter Scheme.

The Master Composter group is run and managed by the Shropshire Waste Partnership (SWP) with its contractors, Veolia Environmental Services, helping to fund the scheme. A two-day foundation course is held at Shirehall in Shrewsbury with the second day being held at Ryton Organic Gardens in Coventry at various times throughout the year.

The course covers all elements of the home composting process including an in-depth look at the types of materials that make successful compost. Once qualified, volunteers will go out and about across the county to talk to groups about how to compost at home.

For further information about the Master Composter Group please called the Waste Education Officer at the Shropshire Waste Partnership on 01743 210 700 or visit the Garden Organic site.
