South Buckinghamshire - Wapsey's Wood landfill update

September 2010 Update

Welcome to the update bulletin for Wapseys Wood landfill site. These bulletins are designed to let you know how we are performing and what we are doing to maintain and operate the site.

22 October 2010

How have we done?

Our aim is to ensure that the site is operating as efficiently as possible and to be good neighbours to local residents. In this section we report how many complaints we have received each month, whether directly reported to the site or reported via our telephone helpline (0800 048 2704). Whenever we receive a complaint we investigate the problem and take any necessary and appropriate remedial action. We received two complaints in September regarding odour. When we investigated we discovered that on one occasion the direction of the wind would have made it impossible for the odour to be coming from Wapseys Wood.

Site Update

Veolia take maintenance of the site very seriously and we work hard to ensure that the landfill sites we operate work efficiently with the minimum of effect on the local environment and our neighbours. Each month we update you on the activities we have carried out on site. Here are details of some of the work that has been carried out on site:
  • The landfilling operation continues in Cell 4 and it should be completed in the next few months
  • Construction works in Cell 5A have now been completed
  • Cell construction validation reports will now be sent to the Environment Agency
  • When approval has been received we will start landfilling in cell 5A At the bottom of this page you will find a link where you can download a plan of the landfill site showing the areas referred to in this section.

Veolia Environmental Trust

The Veolia Environmental Trust was established in 1997 under the Landfill Communities Fund. The Trust uses landfill tax credits to support a wide range of community and environmental projects throughout the UK. This could include projects which aim to install or enhance play areas and skate parks, restore footpaths and green spaces, protect natural habitats, improve community halls and restore churches. Projects that are supported by the Trust must be within five miles of a site operated by Veolia Environmental Services (UK) plc. They must also fall within one of five funding categories and meet certain additional criteria. If you have a project that you think might be eligible for funding by the Trust please visit www.veoliatrust.org.uk, call 01902 794 677 or email info@veoliatrust.org to find out more about the categories and the additional criteria required.
