In February 2010 Veolia Environmental Services was granted planning permission to build an Integrated Waste Management Facility on the Old Kent Road. Construction work on the site began in June 2010.
A Community Liaison Group was set up to keep residents and other interested groups informed during the construction phase and give them the chance to find out more about the new facility. The group still meets today to discuss activities on-site.
