The London Borough of Brent has approximately 270,000 people residing in its 16.7 square miles.
In the south eastern half of the borough areas include Willesden Green, Alperton and parts of Kilburn, while moving north west there is Dollis Hill, Neasden, Wembley, Sudbury and Kingsbury.
Wembley Stadium is unsurprisingly the most famous landmark in the borough, with millions of people each year visiting it for sports matches and music concerts. Its iconic arch can be seen from vantage points across the capital and stretches so high that the London Eye could be wheeled underneath it! Also prominent in Brent is Neasden Temple, one of the largest Hindu temples outside India.
Veolia Environmental Services began a new seven-year contract with Brent Council in April 2007. The major improvement to the service we were previously providing residents is the incorporation of recycling into the mix of domestic refuse collection and street cleansing.
We also operate waste and recycling services for businesses in the borough and surrounding areas.
Special Events
The majority of major events in the borough take place at Wembley Stadium, such as football matches and rock concerts. Veolia Environmental Services provides a sizeable presence in and around the stadium at all Wembley events, making sure the surrounding streets are cleaned up to the highest standards, as well as providing on-site waste collection and cleaning of the concourses.
Our work at Wembley Stadium is a great example of the teamwork ethic prevalent within our London contracts, as for most big events there is both management and staff presence not only from the Brent contract, but also from colleagues in Westminster, Camden and Lambeth.
We also help out in the community, providing clean-up services to local events such as the Kilburn Festival, where in 2007, aside from clean-up operations, we also sponsored a children’s litterpicking and recycling competition.
