The London Borough of Camden is home to over 225,000 people across its 8.4 square miles, with visitors to the area boosting that number considerably on a daily basis due to the vast number of both businesses and attractions throughout the borough.
Stretching from Holborn and Bloomsbury in the south of the borough, to Hampstead in the north, Camden plays host to parts of Covent Garden and Theatreland, Camden Town (including Camden Lock and Market), the BT Tower, the renowned Roundhouse music venue and Hampstead Heath.
Its NW1 postcode, which primarily covers Camden Town and the exclusive Primrose Hill, is considered to be one of the most prestigious postcodes in London and home to many famous celebrities.
The borough is also a major transport hub, with King’s Cross, St Pancras and Euston stations providing a gateway to London for travellers from the North, and vice versa.
Veolia Environmental Services has a seven-year contract which began in 2003 to operate refuse collection, recycling and street cleansing services on behalf of Camden Council.
Special Events
Whenever there is an event occurring in the borough, be it large or small scale, Veolia Environmental Services’ dedicated team of experts are on hand to prepare the area beforehand and clean it thoroughly after the crowds have dispersed.
On New Year’s Eve we operate a round-the-clock service in the busiest areas, such as Camden Town, to ensure the streets are restored to their usual high standard of cleanliness.
We also lend our support in cleaning up many of the events to take place in Regent’s Park, part of which falls into the borough of Camden.
Sponsorships
Veolia Environmental Services proudly supports two of the borough’s foremost annual events – the Camden Green Fair, which takes place in Regent’s Park every June, and the Camden EPIC (Exceptional People in Camden) Awards, recognising local heroes in a range of categories including our sponsored category of Exceptional Contribution to the Local Environment.
In The Community
In December 2006, a group of volunteers from the company took part in a Team Challenge at Camley Street Natural Park in King’s Cross, a two-acre oasis of calm amidst the relative chaos of its surrounds, part funded by our Veolia Environmental Trust.
The team was tasked to completely revamp the Park’s mini beast area, a popular attraction with schoolchildren. The area had become overgrown and in need of a facelift, so the team braved wintry conditions to first of all clear out the area, then redesign and rebuild it, providing a new habitat for the little creatures to call home.
Employee Awards
At Veolia Environmental Services we appreciate the challenging and difficult duties our staff perform every day. In conjunction with both council officers and members of the public, every three months we award one deserving member of staff the coveted title of Employee of the Quarter, culminating in an annual Employee of the Year to recognise the employee with the most consistently high level of performance over the year. Each winner receives a commemorative plaque at a special ceremony.
