With around 2,700 streets within the borough’s boundaries, Veolia Environmental Services is fully aware of the challenges it faces in cleaning the streets of the London Borough of Croydon to a consistently high standard.
We use the latest technologies in advanced mechanical street cleansing equipment, combined with the thoroughness and diligence of our dedicated team of beat sweepers with their hand barrows to ensure these standards are met.
The frequency of cleaning particular streets is set by Croydon Council: the busiest roads in the borough’s major areas cleaned on a daily basis, others are swept at least once a week, while the rest are cleaned every four weeks. We also clean gullies, remove graffiti and remove fly-tips.
A measurement of our success in street cleansing can be indicated by the results of the 2007 Croydon Council Customer Service Awards. We had two nominees from our street cleansing team who made it into the competition which is open to all departments of Croydon Council, including contractors such as ourselves.
Given the high level of competition, even to be nominated is an achievement in itself – step forward one of our sweepers, John Owusu - but to win a category is exceptional. This accolade goes to another of our sweepers, Calvin Campbell, who won the 2007 award for ‘Outstanding Customer Service Working in the Community’ and was even nominated by the Mayor of Croydon himself!
In fact, Calvin was runner-up in the same category last year and was also nominated in the two previous years, so his consistency has been richly and deservedly rewarded. |
