The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is only one of four boroughs to have a Royal Charter and is the second smallest London borough after the City of London in terms of population, being home to approximately 150,000 people in its 14.4 square miles.

A narrowly-shaped borough, areas towards the north include the towns of Kingston upon Thames and New Malden, while further south is Surbiton, moving down towards Chessington.

The only major theme park to fall within Greater London's boundaries, Chessington World of Adventures, is situated in the south of the borough.

The town of Kingston upon Thames has its own Coronation Stone and it is reputed that seven Anglo-Saxon kings were crowned in the town. It boasts to have the best shopping facilities short of Central London. Kingston has many pretty riverside bars and restaurants, while the nightlife is also very popular.

Veolia Environmental Services has a 10 year contract to provide street cleansing and winter maintenance services which began in March 2004. We also provide waste and recycling services to businesses in the borough and surrounding area.

We have also been awarded a seven year recycling and refuse collection contract commencing August 2008.

Special Events
These vary from year to year but include such events as the May Merrie street festival and entertainment day, the Kingston Green Fair, the Procession of the Judges, the Bonfire Night fireworks, Remembrance Day commemorations and the Kingston Regatta.

Other events that affect the Kingston contract are the nearby Sandown and Kempton racecourses and the Hampton Court Flower Show. While none of these actually fall within the borough, we are on hand to provide additional support where required.

We are on hand to prepare the areas before the events begin and ensure a full and thorough clean-up process takes place after events have finished and crowds have dispersed.
