Our service is comprised of a mixture of barrow beats, static gold zone sweepers and mobile crews who empty litterbins, sweep shop fronts and collect fly-tips. There are four mechanical sweepers deployed across the borough providing a service that ranges from a daily sweep in town centres to once every two weeks in most residential streets.
The service to over 1,200 streets is split into two shifts [morning and evening] and runs seven days a week and 365 days a year.
In the near future the contract will have the responsibility for cleansing the Ancient Market, which dates back to before 1208 AD.
Gully Cleansing
The contract has one gully vehicle, which empties in excess of 15,000 pots per year. It is also required to wash the numerous railway bridges around the borough.
On-Street Recycling
We also manage the distinctive dark green street recycling bins in the borough, first introduced by Kingston Council in October 2005.
There are now 140 of these bins located near shopping parades and transport hubs throughout the borough, with bins being introduced to seven locations in Kingston town centre in October 2007.
The bins accept cans, plastic bottles, newspapers and magazines and in the 12 months to August 2007, the scheme has helped divert 165 tonnes of materials from landfill. |
