The London Borough of Lewisham has a population of over 255,000 in its 13.6 square miles, touching a small stretch of the River Thames at Deptford. The borough then runs through New Cross, Lewisham and Blackheath to Forest Hill and Catford, with its southerly areas including Sydenham and Bellingham.
Within Lewisham, Veolia Environmental Services operates the UK’s flagship energy recovery facility, SELCHP (South East London Combined Heat & Power) in Deptford, which takes waste that is not recycled from the boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich, Southwark and Westminster, as well as some waste from Bromley.
