Planting a memorial in our minds
12 October 2007
Daffodils, bluebells, crocuses and snowdrops are among the flowers that will bloom in memory of this momentous period in British history.
And that was not the only cause for festivity as the Tate Gardens was also celebrating its 101st birthday and the Brixton Society was heralding its participation in Lambeth’s Celebrating Age Festival and Black History Month.
Glyn Kyle, Chair of the Brixton Society, said: “This is a fantastic and very important day and indeed month for the people of Brixton. It is vital we are all aware of and understand the significance of these events and the response from the public has been very positive. I am particularly grateful to Veolia Environmental Services for their efforts in supplying and planting these bulbs, which I’m sure will look magnificent once in bloom. I also thank the Lambeth Library, especially the library manager Laura Chrystostomou, for their continued support and also to the Metropolitan Public Gardens Association who supplied the refreshments.”
Robert Seear, senior contract manager for Veolia Environmental Services, added: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to help out with this noteworthy and culturally-significant cause. We hope that this colourful memorial will be cherished by all for many years to come.”
