Veolia Environmental Services undertakes a thorough street cleansing service predominantly using the traditional barrow beat sweeper assisted by mechanical sweeping machines.
The cleansing contract covers a total of 941 roads, with 741 of these swept fortnightly and the remaining swept at a higher frequency.
Richmond has approximately 16,000 street trees, which presents a huge challenge during the ‘leafing’ season every year.
The contract also covers gully emptying, graffiti cleaning, street washing and public convenience cleaning with the borough.
As the streets within the borough are full of parked vehicles, which can sometimes hinder the efficiency of operations, we are currently working with Richmond Council to ensure movement of parked vehicles on cleansing days.
