An Energy Recovery Facility uses the rubbish unsuitable for recycling and composting to make heat and power. Rubbish from your residual waste bin is delivered to a facility where it is burnt under controlled conditions. The heat created from the process is used to generate electrical and/or thermal energy.
Veolia proposes to build an Energy Recovery Facility at the old Rufford Colliery Site near Rainworth.
The facility would treat approximately 180,000 tonnes of waste from Nottinghamshire per year. This would be about 35% of the waste produced in the county.
The 15MW of energy recovered would be equivalent of providing power to 15,000 homes.
The planning application for the proposal was submitted in late November 2007. The Public Consultation Period ran until the end of February 2008.
As part of the planning process, Veolia Environmental Services Nottinghamshire held a series of Public Consultation Events across north Nottinghamshire throughout October 2007. These events were an opportunity for members of the public to find out more about the ERF proposals and to ask any questions relating to the proposed facility.
