 New term and new allotment for Seagrave Primary kids

Children and staff at Seagrave Primary School in Aspley have a treat in store for them when they return to school this week. A brand new allotment with raised beds awaits them, where they will be able to plant and nurture a range of plants, fruit and vegetables.

Back in July, Veolia Environmental Services Nottinghamshire and Nottinghamshire County Council challenged Notts children to enter a fantastic holiday boredom buster competition. Young artists aged 8 – 16 have been getting creative and have produced some amazing recycling themed art work. We have received some truly wonderful entries from plenty of schools in the county including Newark Orchard School, Redlands Primary School and Chilwell School. These ‘EnviroArtists’ are now in with a chance to win £150 for their school and to see their masterpiece enlarged into a sign for one of the 18 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) across the county.

Summer is sadly drawing to a close and the end of the six-week holiday is approaching. Children up and down the UK are making the most of their last few days of freedom while parents secretly breathe a sigh of relief.

It will soon be the weekend workers all over the UK look forward to….the August Bank Holiday weekend. It’s that extra day’s holiday that we all eagerly anticipate; an extra day to garden, clear out the cupboards, have a barbeque, picnic or just relax.

 Early doors for Giltbrook recycling centre

On Wednesday 20th August, your Household Waste Recycling Centre at Giltbrook will close at 16:00 instead of 20:00. This is so that essential maintenance can be carried out to ensure that the site is in tip-top condition and to make your recycling experience that bit better.

‘Go Green with Victoria Centre’ is a four day event which will champion the important message that a small change in the way we live can make a big difference to the world around us.

On Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th July, two classes of year six Notts children enjoyed a fantastic day out at the Attenborough Nature Centre, on a Wildlife Education Day provided by the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.

The sun is shining, the stands are full and that can mean only one thing: its tennis time! The final Nottingham Open is currently taking place at the City of Nottingham Tennis Centre. The qualifying rounds took place on Saturday 14th June and the event will run until the finals on Saturday 21st June. The Open will see tennis stars from all over the world gathering to battle for the winning title.

 Eco hero kid journeys to Paris

Thursday 12th June will be a very special day for Cian Sullivan and Hanna Bjuhr, both ten. The girls, year six pupils at Bestwood Village Hawthorne Primary School will be travelling to Paris for an exciting three day programme of events where they will meet other children from 27 different countries around the world.

Children in Nottinghamshire aged 8 – 16 have been asked to create a winning piece of EnviroArt on the theme of rubbish and recycling to be in with a chance to win £150 for their school. Veolia Environmental Services and Nottinghamshire County Council are running a competition to find 18 environmental masterpieces with “WOW” factor. Winning artwork will be enlarged and reproduced as permanent signage at Household Waste Recycling Centres across Nottinghamshire.

 Celebrity TV environmentalist rewards green Notts kids

On Monday 19th May, a very special event is taking place at Nottinghamshire County Council Chambers at County Hall, West Bridgford.

Throughout February and March, schoolchildren aged 8 – 11 years old from across Nottinghamshire took part in Veolia’s exciting international competition to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable development in today’s cities.

Over the past eight weeks, budding young fashion designers have been honing their skills at New College Nottingham’s Junior Fashion Academy. This Saturday programme has encouraged students to recycle and re-vamp old clothes by making them into new fashionable garments; reducing pressure on parents to buy from new and also highlighting the important ‘3Rs’ message of Reduce, Re-use, Recycle.
