Jean-Dominique Mallet
Chief Executive Officer of Veolia Environmental Services in the United Kingdom, and Executive Vice President of Veolia Propreté

Jean-Dominique was appointed to this position in June 2007 which is in addition to his responsibilities as Executive Vice-President for Northern Europe and Australia. Jean-Dominique is also a member of the company’s Executive Committee and retains responsibility for the technical and greenhouse gas departments of the company.

Jean-Dominique is 56 years old and joined the Veolia Environnement group in 1990. He is highly experienced in the waste management sector having moved to the waste management arm of Veolia Environnement in 1994. Prior to his promotion, Jean-Dominique supervised the company's activities in Australia, Africa, Middle East and Southern Europe.

Jean-Dominique started his career at Continental Illinois Bank, Chicago and then B.A.I.I Bank in Paris where he headed the commercial banking department before joining the construction group of Compagnie Générale des Eaux. He holds a Masters in civil engineering from ESTP, a Masters of Economics from La Sorbonne and an MBA for the University of Notre Dame (USA).


Christophe Bellynck
Group Development Director

Christophe Bellynck is a Civil Engineer, having studied at Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, one of the major engineering schools in France. Prior to joining Veolia Environmental Services in 1990 Christophe worked as a consultant on business reorganisation projects for major blue chip companies. Christophe is in charge of PPP – PFI market development and has led the negotiations of major contracts secured by Veolia Environmental Services (notably Sheffield, Nottinghamshire and East Sussex).


Richard Berry
Executive Director
Human Resources and QHSE

Richard worked as a commercial lawyer for 20 years before joining Veolia Environmental Services (formely Collex) in Australia in 1995 as an external director. In 2000, Richard became Executive Director managing the Australian National Office/Group service functions including IT, Accounting, Compliance, Marketing and Communications and Legal. In July 2008, Richard joined Veolia Environmental Services in the UK as Executive Director with particular responsibility for HR & QHSE.


David Gerrard
Finance Director UK
Veolia Environmental Services

David Gerrard is Chief Financial Officer of Veolia Environmental Services and Regional Executive for its London Regional Forum.

Having trained and qualified with Ernst & Young in Manchester, David spent twelve years with McDonalds moving to its London headquarters in 1992. He was promoted to UK Group Accountant and then MD for its wholly owned subsidiary, Aroma Limited and subsequently held the position of Finance Director with Aramark (US owned), a significant player in the contract catering and managed services industry.

He was appointed Finance Director of Veolia Environmental Services following the acquisition of Cleanaway in September 2006.


Gavin Graveson
Managing Director Treatment & Executive Director South

Gavin Graveson has recently been promoted to Managing Director of our Treatment Division and Regional Executive Director of the strategically important Southern Region.  

As head of the Treatment Division, he is in charge of our major integrated contracts: namely: Hampshire, South Downs, Birmingham, Sheffield, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Southwark and West Berkshire. He is also responsible for all infrastructure operations including landfills, Energy Recovery plants, Materials Recycling Facilities and biological treatment facilities.

In his role as Executive Director for the South his overall responsibilities include leading the development of improved cohesion and communication across staff within every division in the region.

Gavin spent his early career with Veolia Environmental Services in commercial services. Subsequently he became Managing Director of our Hampshire integrated contract and a key player in the Project Integra Partnership, now a benchmark for successful UK waste management.

Gavin is a strong leader with considerable organisational and motivational skills and initially made his name in the waste and recycling industry as General Manager of his family business.  He attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School and Lancaster University, where he gained a degree in Business Studies. 


Kevin Hurst MBA
Marketing and Communications Director

Kevin Hurst joined Veolia Environmental Services in 1999 and is Marketing and Communications Director. Kevin oversees both marketing and communication for the UK operation, and has been instrumental in many of the proactive and successful marketing and communication campaigns developed at Veolia Environmental Services over the past 9 years. Kevin's previous work experiences encompass sales, marketing and operational roles in the automotive, construction and agricultural sectors.

Kevin is passionate about people. In addition to being actively involved in community relationships and social responsibility for Veolia Environmental Services, Kevin also provides a mentoring role to staff for in-house management schemes through the Veolia Campus. Kevin is also an active member of Business Commitment to the Environment.


Paul Levett
Executive Director
Deputy Chief Executive Director

Paul Levett was appointed Executive Director - Deputy Chief Executive Director on 1st November 2008. Prior to the divestment of Cleanaway, Paul was Director/General Manager Recycling, Disposal and Municipal Services (RDMS) since June 2005, having performed the role of Strategy Director since September 2004. Paul re-joined Cleanaway after being based in the USA for five years where he was President and General Manager of the CHEP businesses in Asia Pacific, Africa, Latin America and Canada. Paul previously held the position of Executive Vice President and Global CFO of CHEP as well as having GM responsibility for the global IBC and automotive container business. From 1995 to 1999, Paul served as Finance Director for CHEP Europe.

Paul joined the GKN/Brambles joint ventures via the acquisition of Redland Purle in 1980, which was subsequently renamed Cleanaway Limited. Paul moved through a number of management roles in finance and other areas before being appointed Financial Director of Cleanaway in 1990. His early career began with national Westminster Bank and Redland Industrial Services. He is FCCA qualified and completed the GKN Intensive management Development Programme.


David Lusher
Managing Director - Commercial and Industrial Divisions
Executive Director North

David Lusher has recently been promoted to Managing Director of our Commercial and Industrial Divisions which provide a comprehensive range of waste and recycling services. He is responsible for sectors as varied as education, retail, construction, oil and gas and his remit includes the specialist area of hazardous waste.

In his role as Executive Director for the North, his overall responsibilities include leading the development of improved cohesion and communication amongst staff across the region in every division.

David has worked in the waste management industry since 1990, initially with Caird Group plc and then with Shanks Waste Services Ltd. He joined the company as Municipal Services Director in 2001, and has since occupied senior positions in the Commercial, Treatment and Hazardous activities of the business.  

David is the Chairman of the Midlands Panel of the Veolia Environmental Trust. He holds an Honours Degree in Environmental Sciences, a Masters Degree in Waste Management and an MBA from Leeds University Business School.


John O'Sullivan
Director of Strategy and Development

John O'Sullivan was appointed Director of Strategy and Development on 1st November 2008. He is a graduate mechanical engineer and qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG, where he worked on a range of industrial and corporate finance projects. John then moved into the executive aircraft business working first for British Aerospace plc, then the Raytheon Corporation of the US before joining the waste management industry in 1996.

John held a variety of senior financial, commercial and operational roles at Cleanaway Limited in the UK and the Netherlands. He was appointed Landfill Director of Veolia Environmental Services when its parent company, Veolia Environnement, acquired Cleanaway in September 2006.


Keith Riley BA (OU) BSc (Eng), CEng, FIMechE, MCIWM, MioD
MD - Technical Services Director

Keith Riley is MD - Technical Services Director. He has wide experience in recycling and waste management, particularly working with the public sector. He is winner of the James Jackson Award 2004 from the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management. Prior to working for Veolia Environmental Services Keith was Project Management Director for Associated Energy Projects, another subsidiary of the Veolia Group. Prior to that he worked for blue chip engineering companies including the Babcock Group, Rolls Royce and what is now ABB. Keith is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a Member of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management and holds degrees in Engineering and Economics.


Axel de Saint-Quentin
Executive Director
Chief Financial Officer Northern Europe

Axel de Saint-Quentin is the Chief Financial Officer of Veolia Environmental Services in the United Kingdom and Northern Europe, including Norway, Sweden, Finland and Ireland.

Previously Chief Financial Officer of Veolia Environmental Services in North America, Axel has also held several financial positions in the Energy division of Veolia Environnement in the United States and France.

Prior to joining Veolia Environnement in October 1993 Axel was a senior auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Paris. Axel graduated from ESC Rouen, a French business school.


Tom Spaul
Executive Director
Chief Operating Officer

Tom Spaul has over 20 years experience within the waste management industry, working in both operational and sales management. This includes 16 years with the Veolia Environmental Services Group and its subsidiary companies. Previous experience includes spending 10 years with Dunlop plc in both service delivery and production. Tom has a MSc in Strategic Management, he is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership Management, the Chairman of the Northern Regional Panel of the Veolia Environmental Trust, a Council Member of the CBI West Midlands and a member of the Environment Agency’s Regional Environment Protection Advisory Committee in the Midlands.
