Veolia Environmental Services takes control of Minosus

Veolia Environmental Services, the UK’s largest waste management company, has reached an agreement with Compass Minerals to dissolve the Minosus joint venture in a cash-free transaction that has created two independent businesses.

The Minosus joint venture comprised a unique, underground hazardous waste storage facility and an underground document storage business. Both are located in separate, excavated areas of a 160 year old rock salt mine in Winsford, Cheshire.

Veolia Environmental Services has assumed control and ownership of the waste disposal business and will retain the Minosus name for this activity. The document storage business, known as DeepStore, will now be controlled and owned wholly by Compass Minerals.

Cyrille du Peloux, Veolia Environmental Services’ chief executive for UK and Northern Europe, commented: “We have had a successful partnership with Compass Minerals and our working relationship remains strong. This agreement to dissolve the two businesses will be mutually beneficial, allowing both ourselves and Compass Minerals to focus efforts on our respective areas of expertise, increasing the efficiencies of each business. On our part, this emphasises the ongoing development of our integrated offering to customers and is part of our general strategy to ensure customers are provided with a fully comprehensive range of solutions to suit all their requirements.”
