Secondary Liquid Fuel is a blend of organic and solvent wastes, which can replace the use of fossil fuels in production processes such as cement manufacture. Veolia Environmental Services has produced SLF for over 10 years, offering a cost effective and environmentally sound recycling option for industries producing a wide range of hazardous wastes.
Materials that are suitable for SLF:
• Oils
• Non Halogenated Solvents
• Halogenated Solvents
• Organic Acids
• Glycols
• Distillation Residues
• Solvent Based Inks, Paints & Adhesives
• Aqueous/Organic Mixtures
• Viscous Organic Liquids
• Toxic Solvents
• Organic Sludges
• Amines/Alkali
Blending hazardous liquids to produce SLF is a precise process, carefully controlled by our experienced on-site COTC qualified managers. Sampling, analysis and compatibility tests are carried out by our trained representatives and qualified chemists. Every step of the blending procedure is strictly controlled and documented with the relevant legal paperwork and Veolia Environmental Services' health, safety and quality certification.
We have recently expanded our top tier COMAH, ISO 14001/9001 certified treatment facility near Sheffield, ensuring a consistent outlet for up to 60,000 tonnes per annum of SLF.
For alternative fuel users
The SLF process ensures a safe, efficient service and peace of mind for both hazardous waste producers and alternative fuel users. The Climate Change Levy is putting pressure on cement manufacturers to significantly increase use of alternative fuels and reduce the amount of fossil fuels that they burn. Veolia Environmental Services' Secondary Liquid Fuel blend can replace up to 40% of fossil fuels used in cement kilns, allowing manufacturers to support the Government’s Waste Strategy by recovering energy from previously unexploited waste streams.
