Garden Waste
20% of the waste created at home is garden waste.
If we put this in our wheeled bins we are creating a problem when it goes to landfill. Biodegradable waste creates potentially harmful landfill gases when it decomposes at landfill sites where it is mixed with other waste. By recycling your garden waste, a valuable resource can be created to enrich soil and make our environment greener, in every sense of
the word.

You can recycle your garden waste in an environmentally friendly way by using one of the following options:

Household Waste Recycling Centres
Green Sacks
Green Bins
Home Composting

Household Waste Recycling Centres
The first method is to take your garden waste, along with any other items you may wish to dispose of to one of the five Household Waste Recycling Centres which the City Council provides for this purpose.

Green Sacks
The second method is for us to collect your green garden waste in special green sacks. When you have filled a minimum of 3 or a maximum of 18 green sacks you can then contact Veolia Environmental Services on 0114 273 4567 and arrange for a FREE collection.

Green Bins
The third method for us to collect your green garden waste is with your green wheelie bin. A service which is available to 45,000 Sheffield properties.

Your Green Bin will be collected every 2 weeks from March to November and then every 4 weeks from December to February. It should be placed on the kerbside no later than 7am on the morning of collection. Please ensure your bin does not block the highway or pavement. If you do not have a calendar on your bin showing the collection dates then please call our helpline who will arrange for one to be provided. After collection, please ensure you return your Green Bin to your property. Green Bins MUST NOT be left at the kerbside other than on the day of collection.

For more information about the Green Bins please click here.
