Boris the Blue Box celebrates Recycle Week!

Children from Lydgate Infant School welcomed some very special visitors this week – ‘Boris the Blue Box’ and ‘Bertha the Blue Bin’ to celebrate National Recycle Week. The Waste Awareness Team from Veolia Environmental Services accompanied Boris and Bertha to tell the pupils all about the exciting new recycling service coming to their homes and how they can become recycling champions by using the new service.

Boris and Bertha are recycling experts and helped Veolia’s Waste Awareness Team show the children the different materials that they will be soon be able to recycle from home. Glass bottles and jars, cans and plastic bottles in their existing blue bin and paper and card in their new blue box. Boris and Bertha asked the children to spread the recycling word by telling their families and friends all about them.

Kate Townrow, waste awareness officer at Veolia Environmental Services in Sheffield commented: “The pupils really enjoyed their visit from Boris and Bertha and found out how they will soon be able to recycle more things from home. It is extremely important to educate and involve young people as they are our recyclers of the future and play an important role in encouraging their families and friends.”

Boris and Bertha have already visited over 50 schools to tell the children all about the new recycling service and they are on a mission to visit every school in Sheffield by the end of the year.
