A recycling revolution is changing the way that households in Sheffield recycle. We are introducing a new service to make it easier to recycle glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, cans, paper and card.
How will the new recycling service work?
- If you already have your own black and blue wheeled bins you will receive
a new blue box for your paper and card
- Your existing blue wheeled bin will be used for glass bottles and jars,
plastic bottles and cans
- Your new blue box and existing blue wheeled bin will be emptied together
every 2 weeks
- A special collection vehicle with two compartments – one side for paper and card and the other for plastics, glass and tins - will take your recyclables to be sorted and sent on for recycling
- Our collection teams sometimes put the paper and card from your blue box into a larger black bin so that it can be transported easily to the recycling collection vehicle
- Your black wheeled bin will still be emptied every week
- Residents living in flats will also have a new recycling service specifically designed to be more practical for people living in flats. So watch this space and please keep recycling at your local bring bank site until your new service is introduced.
When will the service start?
We will start distributing the blue boxes in March 2010. All households will have the new recycling service by the end of November 2010. See the diagram below to find out when the new recycling service will start in your area.

Thanks to their efforts, a whopping 266 tonnes were collected in just the first two weeks. Click here to read more about it.
