Household Waste Recycling Centre vehicle permit scheme

From Monday 11 January 2010, the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) provided for Sheffield residents to dispose of waste from their own homes are operating a vehicle permit scheme. Veolia Environmental Services operates the permit scheme on behalf of Sheffield City Council, to prevent the illegal disposal of trade waste at the sites found in Beighton, Deepcar, High Green, Shirecliffe and on Blackstock Road. The new rules will mean that 4x4s with pickups, small vans, Short Wheel Base transit vans, minibuses and cars with trailers will only be allowed on site with a permit or approval for a one-off visit.

As part of the introduction of the permit scheme, from 30 November 2009 vehicles including: Luton box vans, Van pickups and flat beds (excluding 4x4s), Long Wheel Base transit vans and twin axled vehicles have no longer been allowed on site. A permit or approval for a one-off visit cannot be issued for these types of vehicle.

How to apply for a permit:
If the only vehicle in your household is a van or if you wish to bring a trailer on site, you can apply for a permit by contacting Veolia Environmental Services for an application form.  You will need to nominate the site you wish to use, agree to the terms and conditions and provide copies of your vehicle registration document (V5) and a recent utility bill. If your application is successful, you will receive a permit for 12 visits to your nominated site. Each household is entitled to a maximum of 12 visits per year. To apply call: 0114 273 4567 or email: sheffieldenquiries@veolia.co.uk

How to apply for a one-off visit
If your van is not the only form of transport in your household or if you wish to visit a site with a van that is not registered to your address, you can apply for a one-off visit. It's easy to apply for a one-off visit, just contact Veolia Environmental Services on: 0114 273 4567 and provide your name, address, vehicle details and waste type. One-off visits are provided for those occasions, such as house moves where you have more waste than your can fit in your car.
