We provide a range of facilities that will help us to increase recycling.

    The facilities

    To put the strategy in place, a network of facilities needs to be developed, including a Materials Recovery Facility, an enclosed composting facility, an Energy Recovery Facility and Waste Transfer Stations.
  • Materials recovery facility
    Materials Recovery Facility

    Veolia Environmental Services has completed the development of a Materials Recovery Facility, a Waste Transfer Station and a Visitor Centre at Hollingdean Lane, Brighton.
  • Whitesmith composting facility
    Whitesmith Enclosed Composting Facility

    This Enclosed Composting Facility at Whitesmith in the centre of the county, has the capacity to handle 46,000 tonnes a year of principally green waste from the area's network of Household Waste Recycling Sites, to produce organic soil conditioner.

  • Energy recovery facility
    Energy Recovery Facility

    The Energy Recovery Facility construction and commissioning works are now complete.  The latest issue of the bulletin can be found at the bottom of this page.

  • Waste transfer station
    Waste transfer stations

    Currently most of the area’s bin lorries tip directly into landfill sites, often travelling large distances.
