Food and green waste collection service

Food and green waste collection service

We are making changed to the way your food waste is collected, so that you can recycle more and we can process it in a more environmentally acceptable way.

From 31 October 2011 we will be introducing a new food waste collection.  By this date, we will have delivered a new kitchen caddy and liners to your house, together with instructions on how to use the new service.

All you need to do is line your caddy with a compostable liner, empty food waste from your plate and peelings into the new caddy and place the liner into your existing green bin.  Food waste will be collected on the same day as your normal recycling collections.

By putting your food waste in your green bin, your actions will help to cut down the amount of food waste that ends up in landfill sites. Rotting food in landfill generates methane - a greenhouse gas that is 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide and is harmful for the environment.

For more information, you can read our FAQs about the service, which will answer your questions about how you can use the new collection service.
